Heritage Sheep
Navajo Churros are a landrace breed developed by the Navajo from Spanish sheep that were brought over to America. They are a multi purpose breed, priced for their mohair wool, milk and meat. They are a medium-large size breed who are very resistant to disease, parasites, heat and cold. They come in almost all colors and can have multiple horns. The breed is on the list of Endangered breeds as Critical.
More information about this breed, including an in-depth history is available on the NCSA website.
Our Flock
At Showest Farm, we maintain a small flock of Purebred Navajo Churro Sheep. We are members of the NCSA and our flock is registered. Occasionally we may offer lambs to the public but generally we keep our lambs. As this is a multi purpose breed, we utilize the whole sheep. We milk a few of our ewes and make cheeses, soap and other fun stuff for the farm. We use the wool for insulation, as well as spin it into yarn. And of course, we raise wethers for meat for the freezer. At this time, we do not offer any products to the public.
We should have a few lambs available in Spring of 2025.
